In the Georgian Church does not want to intervene in the dispute about the autocephaly for the Ukrainian Church

The Georgian Church has denied supporting the granting of the Tomos of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The information that the Georgian Church supports the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, is not true. This is stated in the official statement of Georgian Patriarchate, published on Monday, October 8, on the website of a religious organization.

In particular, the statement said that the meeting with the Bishop of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrey Parubiy said about the desire of Ukraine to the recognition of the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church. On this the Primate of the Georgian Church said that it would be a pleasant event, but there are difficulties in achieving this issue.

“Regarding the position of the Georgian Church on the question of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, it remains unchanged until you commit your final official positions on the basis of canonical norms of the Church of Constantinople and the Moscow Patriarchate, the Georgian Patriarchate has refrained from comments,” – said in the Georgian Patriarchate.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada’s website reported that Parubiy met with the Primate of the Georgian Church, Patriarch Ilia II, where the Bishop called for a positive decision of a question of granting autocephaly to the UOC. This statement from the website of the Ukrainian Parliament issued media.

“We hope that this complex problem in Ukraine will be resolved positively. The Georgian Orthodox Church, too, has passed a very difficult way to get autocephaly” – quoted the words of the Patriarch the website of the Ukrainian Parliament.

Earlier, the Georgian Orthodox Church refused to participate in discussions regarding the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

It is known that the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has appointed two representatives to prepare for the autocephaly of the UOC. In the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate was called the move a “gross violation”.

Later the Synod of ROC decided to stop participating in the structures under the chairmanship of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. In the temples of the Moscow Patriarchy will cease to mention the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in prayers. At the same time, the Eucharistic communion between the Patriarchates remains.
