The U.S. Senate issued a resolution condemning the Russian annexation of Crimea

The U.S. Senate emphasizes on the non-recognition of the illegal U.S. annexation of Crimea and called for maintaining sanctions against Russia. The text of the resolution was announced by the Republican Senator from Ohio Rob Portman and democratic Senator from the same state Sherrod brown.

Deglava of the Senate of the Ukrainian Caucus, Senator from Ohio, Robert Portman and Deputy head of the Caucus, democratic Senator from the state Sherrod brown introduced the draft resolution on “Condemning illegal Russian aggression in Ukraine in connection with the third anniversary of the annexation of Crimea.” The sponsors of the draft resolution were made by nearly a dozen senators from the Republican and Democratic parties.

“Resolution on the third anniversary of Russia’s attempts to Annex the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the illegal Russian military occupation of the Ukrainian region of Crimea contrary to recognized international standards, is an act of unprovoked aggression and a threat to regional stability,” the statement reads.

The Senate confirmed the U.S. commitment to the provisions of the Budapest Memorandum on security guarantees and the non-recognition de jure or de facto sovereignty of the Russian Federation over Crimea, its airspace or territorial waters.

American legislators are also in favour of further support Ukraine, including by strengthening economic sanctions against the Russian Federation, the state’s defense of lethal means to support democracy and humanitarian assistance for the implementation of the Congress of appropriate legislation.

We will remind, on March 18, 2014 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on “accession of the Crimea and Sevastopol”. Two days before that in the territories held an illegal “referendum”, which is not recognized by Ukraine and the international community.
