УГКЦ не берет деньги ни от власти, ни от нечестных бизнесменов, - Святослав Шевчук

The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) does not take any money from the government nor from dishonest businessmen. About it on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine” said the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk.

“The biggest bagatstvo, in particular, our Church is our people, our believers. It is the treasure that was handed to us by our Lord. And for all that we have today, even in the material dimension, we are grateful to our faithful, the members of our ward. When it comes to who really is financially support our Church, his Beatitude Lubomyr Husar made a rule (which we try to adhere to): we do not charge any money from the government nor from dishonest businessmen. So this person (Dmytro Firtash – ed.) that You mentioned, did not appear in the lists of our donors. And our Patriarchal Cathedral, and this room is where we are, we built thanks to the donations of ordinary people. So we’ve built,” he said.

The head of the UGCC also noted that the Church cannot participate in politics, but should cultivate honest politicians. On the question of whether the Church is to do business, he said, “the Church can engage in certain financial initiatives, but it should not turn into some kind of business structure.”
