Labour migrants constitute about 4.7% of the global workforce. The “lion’s share” of it is in countries with high and medium-high income.

The number of labor migrants worldwide in 2013 rose by 9% to us $ 164 million. It is reported by the international labour organization (ILO) of the United Nations Wednesday, 5 December.

The report, based on statistics for the year 2017, migrant workers are defined as people aged 15 years and older who moved to another country in search of work or found a job after moving to a foreign country.

According to ILO, labour migrants constitute about 4.7% of the global workforce. The “lion’s share” of it is in countries with high and medium-high income.

Thus, 61% of labor migrants are located in three subregions: 23% in North America, 23.9% in Northern, southern and Western Europe and 13.9% in Arab countries.

In other regions, which are home to a large number of migrant workers – more than 5%, and include Eastern Europe, Africa South of the Sahara, Southeast Asia and Central and West Asia. While North Africa is home to less than 1% of migrant workers.

We will remind, the scale of labor migration in Ukraine has reached a threatening level for the future of the Ukrainian economy. The proportion of migrants in the population aged 15 to 70 years is 8%.

Currently abroad are constantly working about 3.2 million Ukrainians. And for seasonal work abroad leaving about 9 million citizens of Ukraine.
