There is no gene responsible for homosexuality – scientists

Не существует гена, ответственного за гомосексуальность - ученые

Attraction to people of your gender are associated 5 combinations of genes, one related to the sense of smell, the other with sex hormones, but together they have identified less than 1% of homosexuality.

Genetic analysis of these half a million people allowed to come to the conclusion that no single gene responsible for homosexuality, writes the BBC.

The study, published in the journal Science, studied data from the UK Biobank and an American biotech company 23andMe.

Was discovered some genetic combinations associated with gay relationships, but genetic factors only a quarter have identified homosexual behavior.

The researchers scanned the genomes of 409 000 people registered in the UK Biobank project, and the 68 500 persons, registered in the genetic company 23andMe. Study participants were also asked about their field partners.

In the end, researchers from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of technology concluded that from 8 to 25% of homosexual behavior of people in society are determined by genetic factors, but not by any one gene.

It was found that attraction to people of your gender are associated 5 combinations of genes, one related to the sense of smell, the other with the sex hormones. But together, they have identified less than 1% of homosexuality.

“There is no single gene for homosexuality, so the genetic test of the probability of occurrence in humans of same-sex relationships won’t work,” says Ben Neal, Professor at the Department of analytical and translational genetics at the Massachusetts hospital, who worked on the study.

We will remind that the mayor of Ottawa Jim Watson in 58 years for the first time openly admitted that he was homosexual.
