Oleksandr Turchynov believes that the media can not be information to support the aggressor
Media in Ukraine can illuminate violations of the separatists, but the information to support the aggressor is a crime, said Turchinov.
Ukrainian media can highlight violations of the separatists, but the information to support the aggressor is a crime. This was stated by the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov on Thursday, November 15, reports 112.ua.
In particular, in response to the question of whether the media to call the terrorists, if they cover the actions of terrorist organizations, he said, “When the media support terrorists, according to Ukrainian law, it is included in the information support of terrorism as part of terrorist activities. Therefore, to cover the crimes is one thing, and informational support for the aggressor and a terrorist organization is quite another matter, and, according to Ukrainian legislation, is a serious offense”.
Turchynov also expressed support for recently registered in the Parliament draft law No. 9275 On the protection of the information space.
“I think to avoid abuse, many fear that Executive power can tread on freedom of speech, so I think this fuse, the question for the media, their inclusion in the sanctions list, or those structures that they provide – this should be exclusively the competence of the Verkhovna Rada”, – said Secretary of the NSDC.
However, he believes the logical introduction of such a “fuse”.
“To avoid abuse of the Executive power, power structures, and to be able to distinguish between information security and freedom of speech,” – said Turchinov.
