Tusk called on Russia to release Ukrainians

The President of the Council of Europe appealed to Russia.

Donald Tusk called for the immediate release of illegally detained on the territory of Russia and annexed its Crimea Ukrainian citizens, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

“I urge the immediate release of all illegally detained Ukrainian citizens in Russia and on the Crimean Peninsula,” – said Tusk at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday in Kiev.

Tusk also said that the EU does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and Russia’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and sanctions against Russia will remain until the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty.
