The Cathedral of Sophia of Kyiv has to be a meeting place for the descendants of the Kyivan Church, said the Church.

Liturgy of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church of St. Sophia, which was scheduled for 7 April will not take place. This was reported by the press service of the UGCC.

According to the report, 7 March took place the meeting of head of the UGCC his Beatitude Sviatoslav with the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphanius.

“During the meeting of the primates was reported that the St. Sophia Cathedral will soon be unavailable for worship by any Church, as it begins restoration work. In this regard we have to state that the Liturgy of our Church on April 7 in St. Sophia will not take place”, – stated in the message.

In the UGCC noted that “wanting to pray in this temple, we wanted to Express our Church’s relationship with our Orthodox brethren.”

“This movement is … movement to restore unity once United, now divided Kyivan Church. It was noted that our churches are only beginning this journey. …Yet this unity yet, none of the churches as the inheritors of this Church can not unilaterally take the old Cathedral of St. Sophia. Rather, it needs to be a meeting place for descendants of the Kievan Church to be a call and hope for our combination of in Christ,” said Patriarch Sviatoslav.

Earlier, the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav announced the holding of the divine Liturgy in St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev on the occasion of the feast of the Annunciation on April 7. Permission was obtained from the Ministry of culture, the office of which is located the Cathedral of St. Sophia. In turn, the honored Patriarch of the DNC Filaret called on the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav to withdraw from conducting this Liturgy.

The Synod also ptsu voted against the Liturgy of the UGCC in Kyiv Sofia.
