Ukraine gets nuclear fuel from U.S. and Russian

Production and Assembly of nuclear fuel will be implemented at the Westinghouse company in the Swedish city of västerås. Deliveries under the contract will begin in early 2021.

NAEK Energoatom and the American Westinghouse Electric company and NNEGC Energoatom signed a contract on the extension of the contract for the supply of nuclear fuel to Ukraine until 2025. About it reports a press-service of the Westinghouse.

“This agreement provides for the supply of nuclear fuel to provide seven of the 15 Ukrainian nuclear power units during 2021-2025., which means that the expansion and continuation of the current agreement for six units, which expires in 2020”, – stated in the message.

Commenting on the new agreement, the President of Energoatom Yuriy Nedashkovsky has said that the company is unique in the world, which operates the reactor design VVER-1000 and fully diversified sources of supply of nuclear fuel for reactors of this type.

“To achieve this goal, a key role plays the cooperation with the Westinghouse company,” – said Nedashkovsky.

“Manufacturing and Assembly of fuel will be delivered at the company Westinghouse in the Swedish city of västerås, where there are dedicated processing line exclusively for the production of fuel for VVER-1000 reactors”, – said in Westinghouse.

Deliveries under the contract will begin in early 2021, immediately after the completion of the contract.

As reported Корреспондент.net in the near future the share of Westinghouse in Ukraine will be increased to 55%. This was announced by the President Petro Poroshenko during a trip to the US.

The Westinghouse fuel will be used on two blocks of Zaporizhzhya NPP. Permission was given by the State Inspectorate for nuclear regulation of Ukraine.

Also discusses the use of Westinghouse fuel at the Rivne NPP.
