Oil spill in the Crimea has led to significant contamination of the region.

The Ukrainian side sent a note to the Russian Federation with the requirement to immediately provide under the UN Convention on the law of the sea and other rules of international law all the information about the oil spill in the Black sea near Sevastopol in the Crimea.

This is stated in the commentary of the MFA of Ukraine on the Agency’s website.

The Ukrainian foreign Ministry expressed concern about reports of the oil spill in the Black sea, which occurred in early may and was reported to have led to significant pollution of the marine area of the spill.

“Ukraine as a coastal state has sovereign rights in sea areas temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea has the right to demand from other countries for compliance with their obligations to prevent and overcome consequences of pollution in the marine areas of Ukraine”, – said in comments.
