Ukraine is holding “intense and unprecedented reforms,” the EU report

The European Union notes that Ukraine has recently implemented unprecedented reforms in the sphere of Economics and politics. This is stated in the joint report of the European external action service and the European Commission, which analyses the state of implementation by Ukraine of the Association agenda between 1 January 2015.

“Ukraine has carried out intensive and unprecedented reforms in its economy and political system, and democratic institutions all the more alive” – it says.

According to the report of the diplomatic service of the EU, EU high representative for foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini noted the great progress of Ukraine in implementing reforms.

“Over the past two years Ukraine is in a rather difficult circumstances, not posleduyuschie, the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol – have made great strides. The present report fully acknowledges the work done by the Ukrainian authorities. It is now crucial to move from the adoption of legislation and creation of institutions to fully implement these reforms to Ukrainian citizens could reap the fruits of this labor. The way forward for Ukraine can count on the support of the European Union, ” said Mogherini.

The European Commissioner for European neighbourhood policy and enlargement Johannes Hahn also noted that the efforts of Ukraine to implement reforms bring results.

“Ukraine has made important steps to address key systemic problems of corruption…. This work should be continued and should bring real changes in the country. The fight against corruption and the establishment of a reliable judicial system are also key to transforming the business climate and restore prosperity. The European Union will continue to support Ukraine in these efforts, both politically and financially,” – said the Commissioner.

According to the report, Ukraine has implemented a number of reforms to combat corruption in the field of restoring order in the banking system and started to implement ambitious reforms in the energy sector, the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law.

However, the report stresses that in some other areas, such as privatization of state enterprises, as well as in the social and health sector, reforms are moving more slowly.

The report also noted that Ukraine has successfully fulfilled all the benchmarks under the plan on liberalization of visa regime, resulting in the European Commission in April 2016 has proposed to the European Council and the European Parliament to abolish the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens.
