EBRD in 2017 issued loans record amount of 9.7 billion euros

The country last year received from the European Bank for reconstruction and development 581 million euros, becoming the third volume of loans of the Bank.

Ukraine took the third place among the recipients of loans from the European Bank for reconstruction and development, in 2017, she was allocated to 581 million euros. On Wednesday, January 17, Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the statement of the Bank.

Thus, the EBRD in 2017 issued loans record amount of 9.7 billion euros. The measure climbed for four consecutive years; in 2016 it amounted to 9.4 billion euros.

The number of projects that received financing from the EBRD, increased to a maximum in history against 412 378 a year earlier.

The largest recipient of loans was again Turkey, despite the fact that the indicator has decreased in comparison with the year 2016 to 1.54 billion euros from 1.92 billion euros. On second place came Egypt: investment in the country has increased almost twice, to 1.41 billion euros. Third place went to Ukraine, received from the EBRD 581 million euros in 2017.

It is noted that the volume of loans to projects in the field of “green” energy, last year rose to 4.1 billion euros from 2.8 billion euros a year earlier. Thus, the share of such projects in new loans of the Bank amounted to 43%, although previously the EBRD is expected to reach the target of above 40% by 2020.

Among the major projects is the construction of solar power plant in the Egyptian city of Benban. It is expected that this plant will reach capacity of 1.8 gigawatts, and will be the largest such project in the world.

It is also reported that in the past year, the EBRD first began to provide loans to Lebanon and has opened offices in Alexandria, Tangier and Odessa.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that EBRD will allocate 18 million euros for the program of modernization of housing and the efficient use of energy resources in Ukraine.
