The Ministry of economic development launched an investigation of importation of cars from Uzbekistan

Currently, Uzbekistan has several enterprises for the production of passenger cars

The Ministry of economic development and trade has started an investigation of import to Ukraine of cars from Uzbekistan. The corresponding decree of the Interdepartmental Commission on international trade published on the website of the official newspaper of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Government courier.

A complaint with a request to initiate an investigation, the Department filed by the Association of Ukrainian automakers ‘ Ukrautoprom.

According to members of the Commission, the complaint has enough information, based on which, we can assume that the import of cars from Uzbekistan could harm Ukrainian producers because of the scale of import and its terms. Also the Commission has reason to suspect that the Uzbek car manufacturers could receive subsidies from the state agencies of Uzbekistan and to enjoy private benefits from such subsidies.

Thus, during the 2015-2017 years, Uzbekistan has significantly increased the volume of import of cars to Ukraine. “In absolute terms – on 760,7%, relative to consumption and production in Ukraine on 440,7% 957,7% respectively; prices of imported cars lower prices of passenger cars produced by the applicant. In this regard, the Commission initiated antisubstitution investigation”, – stated in the message.

Currently, Uzbekistan has several enterprises for the production of passenger cars: General Motors -Uzbekistan (in Ukraine put Chevrolet and Ravon.) and Land Rover in Uzbekistan.

As reported, in the first seven months of 2018, the import of passenger cars in Ukraine increased by 31% compared to the same period last year – up to of 107.94 thousand pieces.
