Ukraine is negotiating with the IMF

The new cooperation program with the International monetary Fund could be signed for three years.

Ukraine is very active discussions with the International monetary Fund (IMF) about a new loan program as the country prepares for early General elections. This was stated by the Minister of Finance Oksana Markarova in an interview with Bloomberg.

At the end of 2018, the IMF agreed to provide a loan in the amount of 3.9 billion dollars. However, they are still suspended, not yet formed a new government. According to Markarova, the new IMF program will last three years.

“This program that we have now, we have developed as a program violation to cover Ukraine through two elections. In a sense, this program did what you had to do,” said the Minister.

The Finance Minister noted that, given the fact that investors are interested in domestic bonds of Ukraine, the government probably won’t sell more debt in international markets in 2019.

“This month it sold 1 billion euros of debt. We are already seeing that in excess of budget forecasts for the funding of local loans,” said Markarov.

We will remind, earlier the head of the national Bank Yakov Smoliy said about the intention to start negotiations on a new programme with the IMF this year. This intention was expressed in the presidential Administration.

At the same time, the NBU expects to receive a tranche of $ 1.3 billion under the existing IMF program this year.
