The Ukrainian delegation called upon the international criminal court to investigate.

The Ukrainian delegation to the UN in 71 session of the UN General Assembly made a statement in which it called on the international criminal court to investigate war crimes of Russia in Donbass.

“In light of the current difficult situation in and around Ukraine, we fully recognize the need of ensuring the global jurisdiction, legitimacy and the International criminal court (ICC)”, – quotes the statement of Ukrainian diplomats UKRINFORM.

The document notes that the armed aggression of the Russian Federation is “a serious crime against humanity and a war crime within the jurisdiction of the ICC.”

Also reminded that Ukraine has filed a statement in relation to crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by senior officials of the Russian Federation and the leaders of DNR/LNR. The document was submitted in September 2015 in accordance with article 12(3) of the Rome Statute, as it is still not adopted at the legislative level in Ukraine.

“We believe that the ICC will be one of the best ways to ensure that all perpetrators of international crimes were brought to justice, and that massive violations of human rights will be recognized, and the victim will receive compensation for their suffering,” – the document says.

Earlier in October, the organization “International partnership for human rights” transferred to the Hague documents about the crimes in the Donbass. It was reported that documented crimes on both sides of the conflict.

We will remind, in 2015 for war crimes by the Ukrainian courts were convicted of 2.5 thousand people.
