The head of the national Bank wants to start talks about a new program with the International monetary Fund this year.

The head of the National Bank Yakov Smoliy considers it necessary to continue the implementation of Ukraine’s commitments under the International monetary Fund program and to begin negotiations on a new program with the Fund this year. This was reported on the website of the NBU in Facebook.

It is specified that the head of the national Bank of Ukraine made this statement during a recent meeting with the chief economist of the European Bank for reconstruction and development Sergei Guriev. The meeting discussed the current situation in the Ukrainian economy and the financial market. In particular, discussed the prospects of servicing the external debt of Ukraine, the process of preparation for joining international financial organizations in the capital of the state banks and potential involvement in the Bank, and the development of electronic payments.

Resin also reminded about the intentions of the Central Bank to develop and adopt before the end of the year a new strategy for the reform of the financial sector of Ukraine for the years 2020-2025, on which work is already underway. For its part, the EBRD expressed its support for a flexible exchange rate policy and inflation targeting regime adopted by the Bank. They also noted the necessity of preserving the independence of the NBU, as the experience of other countries, it is the key to a healthy economic policy, the report says.

Earlier it became known that Ukraine will receive a tranche from the European Union, if they fulfill a number of requirements.

It was also reported that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with representatives of the IMF mission, and they complained about the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.
