Bulgaria one-third will reduce the transit of gas through Ukraine

In 2020 Bulgaria will purchase about 30% of gas from Azerbaijani field to transit through Greece.

After 2020 Bulgaria plans to cut Russian gas transit via Ukraine by about a third. On Thursday, 8 November, said energy Minister Temenujka Petkov, writes Interfax.az.

“We have a contract with the Azerbaijan company (SOCAR) to supply 1 billion cubic meters of gas in 2020,” she said.

Currently Bulgaria is almost entirely dependent on Russian gas transported through the Ukrainian gas transportation system and the territory of Romania.

Petkov also noted the potential supply of natural gas from LNG terminals in Greece and Turkey. According to her, there is a possibility of supply of natural gas from Romania, and Sofia hoped that after the gas exploration in the Black sea in Bulgaria with its own production.

After 2020 up to 30% of gas demand in Bulgaria will provide from Azerbaijani field Shah Deniz II in transit through the territory of Greece.

Note, for the first nine months of 2018 Ukraine has reduced gas transit by 4.9 billion cubic meters, or 7% compared to the same period of 2017.
