The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called on citizens to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor, noting that such a terrible crime against the Ukrainian people today encourage even more to protect your future. In particular, he wrote about this on his page in Facebook.

“The memory of the terrible crime of the organizers of the famine gives us the power to protect your future. Ukraine remembers,” – said Poroshenko.

In turn, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman reminded that the Holodomor of 1932-1933 is one of the largest disasters in the history of European humanity. “The Stalinist system was deliberately used famine as a weapon of mass destruction, trying to overcome resistance to collectivization and to destroy the national spirit of the Ukrainians. Historians have long proved that it was artificially organized famine, because the food stocks existed, but their purpose was taken from the Ukrainian peasantry. According to sociological research 2015, 81% of Ukrainians rightly considered the Holodomor 1932-1933 genocide against the Ukrainian people. According to various estimates, from 3 to 7 million Ukrainians was planned to be destroyed by the totalitarian regime. This act of mass extermination of people has undermined the gene pool of the Ukrainian nation, and the testimony about it from our genetic memory. Today, a number of countries have recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, was a crime against humanity, which the Ukrainians will never forget and which has no right to forget the world community”, – he emphasized in his address to Ukrainians.

The President and the Prime Minister asked citizens today to light a candle of memory of victims of Holodomor in his house.
