The former leader of the Soviet Union supported the annexation of Crimea.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko offered to start the procedure of deprivation of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, Laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize because of his position on Crimea. The petition was registered on the website Monday, may 23.

The author of the petition asks Poroshenko to appeal to the international Nobel Committee to recognize Gorbachev’s statements about the annexation, such that contravene international law, and carry the threat of a call to hatred on a territorial and national lines.

For consideration of the initiative by the head of state is necessary to collect 25 thousand signatures within 92 days.

Gorbachev received the Nobel peace prize in 1990.

Earlier, Gorbachev backed Putin in the Crimea in interview to the newspaper Sunday Times.
