UN: Food getting more expensive in the world for the second consecutive month

Most of all rose in price milk, grains and meat.

The average value of food price index in the world in June of this year, who expects the food and agriculture organization of the UN (Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO) rose by 1.4% compared with may and by 7% compared to June last year. Thus, the increase in world food prices continues for the second month in a row, the press service of the organization.

The increase was associated with a marked increase in prices for dairy products, grains and meats, while prices of sugar and vegetable oils fell.

So, the average value of the price index for dairy products rose 8.3%, approaching the maximum level for the last three years. The value of the price index for cereals rose by 4.2% compared with may and is the highest indicator over the last year. The average value of the meat price index rose 1.8%, its growth continues for the sixth month in a row.

At the same time, the average value of the price index for sugar by 13.4% below the level in may, which was at least 16 months. And the value of the price index of vegetable oil decreased by 3.9% due to falling prices of palm and soybean oil.

The FAO food price index – a measure of the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food commodities. It is calculated on the basis of the average values of price indices for five commodity groups, weighted average of the share of each group in global exports.

We will remind, in Ukraine in may 2017 prices for food increased by 2.4% compared to the previous month.
