UN: foreign Direct investment in the world fell 16%

The UN has published a report on world investment

Reduced investment due to geopolitical risks and the sharp reduction in investment in the economy of the USA, UK and Russia.

By the end of 2017 the volume of foreign direct investment in the world decreased by 16% compared to the previous year and amounted to 1.52 trillion.

This is stated in a new report by the UN Conference on trade and development (UNCTAD) on world investment. The authors analyze the most recent trends in global investment and assessed their prospects, the press center of the UN.

It is noted that the flow of foreign direct investment in transition economies decreased by 17% and amounted to approximately 55 billion dollars, mainly in connection with sharp reduction of investment in the Russian economy.

Investment flows to industrial countries compared to the previous year dropped even more: in Europe – 27%, and in North America by 33%.

The volume of foreign direct investment in developing countries remained at the same level as last year.

Experts report suggest that tax reform in the United States will have a significant impact on decisions of transnational corporations, which will affect global investment flows.
