The U.S. Congress has urged the Ukrainian authorities to provide security for the holding of the LGBT March in Kiev. This is stated in an open letter to the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, which was signed by 38 members of the lower house of Congress.

Earlier, the ambassadors of Western countries urged the authorities of Kiev and other regions to provide LGBT-community safety while scheduled for June 12, the March of equality.

“The Ukrainian government must protect the right of Ukrainian citizens to peaceful Assembly and to provide protection to March for civil equality “Kiev pride”, – stated in the message.

The congressmen also noted progress in the protection of civil rights for the GLBT community in Ukraine. In particular, they welcomed the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada anti-discriminatory amendments to the legislation.

At the same time, Americans are concerned about the growing violence against LGBT Ukrainians, remembering the attack on the “Festival of equality” in Lviv, which was held in March.

“We are particularly concerned about the lack of strong condemnation of such violence from the authorities and the General omissions of its organs in the face of threats and violence against the festival and its participants,” said the congressmen.
