Victims of the Stalinist regime in the USSR began from 45 to 80 million repressed and killed. This was announced by the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy paruby, reports the press service of the Parliament.

“Today we remember and honor all who died from crimes and abuses of totalitarian regimes. It’s hard to imagine, but Western researchers call the terrible figures of the victims of the Stalinist regime in the Soviet Union – from 45 to 80 million repressed and killed,” – said paruby.

According to the speaker, “Hitler and Stalin tried to squeeze the spirit of freedom of our people. The enemy understood – the will to fight for independence among the Ukrainians can’t defeat, and therefore exterminated EN masse of all – the elderly, women, patients, children.”

Parubiy said that during the Communist regime in Ukraine on Stalin’s orders the firing of the polygons appeared in the vicinity of almost all regional and district centers.

“Bykovnya, Rutchenkovo field, Demyanov LAZ and zalishchyky – these areas have heard many of our countrymen. Four picturesque tracts in different parts of Ukraine burnt bitter and bloody history of Stalin’s repressions. It is here that destroyed the flower of the Ukrainian nation”, – said the head of Parliament.

Parubiy noted the importance of national unity of the Ukrainians. He urged to remember our history and to be strong.

According to the decree of the third President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko No. 431/2007 “On measures in connection with the 70th anniversary of the Great terror – the mass political repression of 1937-1938”, this day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of may.

Today, President Petro Poroshenko, the government and Parliament, the clergy and the public on the territory of National historical memorial reserve “bykivnya graves” (Kiev) will honor the memory of those who are buried there, victims of Stalinist repression. This is stated in the report of the Institute of national remembrance.

Bykivnia burial of victims of Stalinist repression refers to the largest on the territory of Ukraine. During 1937-1941. trucks almost every night brought a body shot in the Kiev prison of the NKVD for secret burials in Bykivnia forest. Last found peace here, according to various estimates, from 15 to more than 100 thousand people who were tortured during interrogation or were shot extrajudicially by NKVD in Kyiv. Among them – writers Mikhail Semenko, Mike Johansen, Veronica Chernyakhovsky, the artists Mikhail Boichuk, Mykola kasperovych, academics Fedor Kozubovsky, Petro Suprunenko, UAOC Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivsky tens of thousands of other victims of Stalin’s “Great terror” in 1937-1938.
