German automotive concern Volkswagen is going in the next five years (until 2023) to invest in developing electric vehicles, self-driving cars and the digitalization of 44 billion euros. Such decision on Friday, November 16, adopted by the Board of Directors of the concern.

As pointed out by Reuters, roughly one third of the planned for this period total expenses of the company.

In the previous five-year programme (from 2018 to 2022) was allocated 34 billion euros. “We and our investment focusareas the promising areas of mobility and consistently pursued its strategy”, – said the Chairman of the Board of the concern Herbert Dis.

Money for programs related to elektromobile, the company intends to seek at the expense of multi-billion dollar saving programs in the production of other models.

The representative of the Board of VW Oliver bloom confirmed that three companies of the group in Emden, Zwickau and Hanover – will be converted and equipped for the production of electric vehicles. In addition, the planned construction of a factory in Eastern Europe.

Earlier it was reported that the number of electric cars in Europe in the first half of the year exceeded 1 million, and by the end of the year is expected to reach 1.35 million.
