German carmaker Volkswagen AG (VW) plans to review its plans on development of technologies for electric vehicles after the EU authorities have tightened the emission standards of carbon dioxide.

As reported, representatives of the 28 EU countries and the European Parliament agreed to reduce CO2 emissions in cars by 37.5% by 2030, compared to the target level by 2021. Earlier it was expected that emissions will be reduced by 30%.

According to CEO of Volkswagen gerbera Diess, the new measures mean that by 2030, over 40% sold by company cars in Europe should be electric.

Previously, Volkswagen announced its intention to invest 30 billion euros in the development of electric vehicles up to 2022. Now, these plans are subject to revision.
