Monday, July 15, the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova met with his Russian counterpart Tatiana Moskalkova, during which they discussed issues of Ukrainian liberation.

“We will discuss the issue of release of Ukrainian citizens who have been held in Russia and occupied Crimea and Russian citizens detained in Ukraine”, – said Denisov.

Also, according to her, the ombudsmen will consider the possibility of humanitarian security of individual citizens in places of detention, medical or other assistance.

“We will talk about our further cooperation”, – concluded Denisov.

According to Moskalkova, this dialogue is a continuation of the conversation, which was held by the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.

Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the sailors may be exempted before the day of early parliamentary elections.

Previously, the same opinion was voiced by the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.

“I’m sure they (prisoners of war sailors) will be released in the near future,” he said.

Russia’s Response

On July 10, the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is not negotiating the release of Ukrainian sailors.

“The situation with the detained persons – this topic is addressed in the Contact group, but until we see the results there,” he said.

The question is whether the Kremlin negotiations on the release of Ukrainian sailors held in Russia, and journalist Kirill Vyshinsky – in Ukraine, Peskov said: “No.”

He recalled that “there were some requests of the Russian side, the musical correspondence”.

On 15 July, the Russian foreign Ministry has announced that Russia is discussing with Ukraine the question of an exchange of detainees in the area of the Kerch Strait the Ukrainian sailors.
