Zelensky has signed a law on whistleblowers of corruption

The document defines the legal status of whistleblowers – people who report corruption.

President Vladimir Zelensky has signed the Law “On amendments to the law “On corruption prevention” about the whistleblowers of corruption,” the press service of the President’s Office.

The objective of the document, according to the income statement, is the improvement of Ukrainian legislation in the sphere of protection of whistleblowers of corruption with a view to its harmonisation with international standards and best practices.

This law defines the legal status of whistleblowers – people who report the Commission of a corrupt or connected with corruption offences and sets out the rights, guarantees and mechanisms of protection of these persons and individuals equated to them.

The law also establishes the conditions for information disclosure about corruption, regulates the disclosure of a denouncer of corruption, exemption from legal liability of plaintiffs of corruption in the disclosure of corruption or connected to corruption offences, as well as providing state protection to whistleblowers of corruption, in particular the protection of their labour rights.

“The law will create a new effective system to prevent corruption based on international standards that will contribute to reducing corruption in the state and, consequently, the development of economy and increase of welfare of citizens”, – said the press service.

We will remind, on October 17 the Parliament adopted the law on whistleblowers of corruption. For the project in the second reading voted 252 MP.
