Zelensky signed a decree abolishing parliamentary immunity

The law will come into force on 1 January 2020. He was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on 3 September.

President Vladimir Zelensky has signed the law on cancellation of parliamentary immunity. On Wednesday, September 11, the press service of the President’s Office.

The law was adopted by Parliament on 3 September.

According to the law, article 80 of the Constitution shall be redrafted, does not contain provisions that national deputies are guaranteed parliamentary immunity, and they may not, without the consent of the Verkhovna Rada to be held criminally liable, detained or arrested.

At the same time, according to the new wording of article 80 of the Basic Law, the deputies do not bear legal liability for voting results or statements in Parliament and its bodies, with the exception of liability for insult or defamation.

It is expected that the law will come into force on 1 January 2020.
