Central Park of Simferopol was renamed in honor of Catherine II

This decision is necessary to “restore the historical memory of Russia in the Crimea”, according to local authorities.

Simferopol Park of culture and recreation renamed the Catherine garden. This decision was made at the next 49th session of the Simferopol city Council. About it reports a press-service of administration of Simferopol.

“This decision is socio-cultural in nature and necessary for the recovery of historical memory of Russia in the Crimea, facilitating the accomplishment of one of the Central parks of Simferopol, and also in connection with the re-establishment on the territory of the Park of the monument to Russian Empress Ekaterina II”, – stated in the message.

According to the publication the Crimea.Reality, in Simferopol preparations continue for the opening of the monument to Russian Empress Catherine II. Now work on the landscaping of the Park, where there will be a sculptural composition. The monument want to present to citizens at the end of repair work around it.

The monument to Russian Empress Catherine II began to set on June 23. The sculpture was delivered from Moscow Zhukovsky where it was manufactured at the sculpture production plant of Lit Art.

The initiative to restore the monument to Catherine II, which stood until 1921 in Simferopol, made by the Crimean public organization “Russian unity” in 2015.

We will remind, in April in the Central Park of culture and rest of Simferopol, has consecrated the Foundation of the monument to Catherine II.
